Not wanting to sit around and mope about the failed attempt at a relationship with Josh (who I haven’t heard from at all by the way- much to my surprise and, might I even admit, a bit of disappointment), I decided to make up from my avoidance of all things men last week, and met up with a new guy last night. We had been emailing, and then texting, since I first started my quest of online dating. We started off emailing very slowly, so while I thought he was interesting, I wasn’t as excited about meeting him as some of the other guys I’d been talking to, but the more we talked, the more I thought he had some potential. His texts included just the right amount of flirtiness and sarcasm- my favorite combination. I want to be left guessing, and any guy who is too eager will never win me over.
So the date was set with “The Accountant”. And while I teased him relentlessly about how boring he probably was because of his occupation (and my apologies to those accountants out there), he always seemed like he was as goofy and social as I am. So we met up at a restaurant that brews their own beer for some drinks and a pizza (and he even went vegetarian for the night for me- major bonus!). The weirdest thing about The Accountant is, I have dated an accountant before, and they both shared the same first name, and the same last name initial- a Z of all things! And then I found out that they even worked at the same accounting firm! Luckily, not in the same town, and this accountant wasn’t currently married. But I couldn’t help going into this date wondering if this accountant was going to be super similar to my ex. But he wasn’t. The biggest difference is, he is TALL! And I don’t just mean tall, I mean 14 inches taller than me! I admit, I’m a shortie, stacking up to only 5’2”, but he is 6’4”, so the greeting and goodbye hugs were kind of…awkward. But besides the fact that we might look like a freak show when we are out together, we had a good time
I had such a good time so that I stayed out much later than I thought I would with him, but that’s a good sign about how well the conversation flowed. I will say the most awkward part of the date was my fault. The Accountant has an amazing memory, it’s like he has committed to memory every single thing I have said (he even remembered that our brother’s had the same birthday) and I guess I’ve been talking to too many guys, but I couldn’t remember a lot of the things we had emailed and texted about. So perhaps I need a big chart in my living room, where I write down what I have learned about all the guys I have been talking to, so I don’t have any more awkward moments of “was that you that I talked to about…”. Oops. But overall, it was a good date. I mean, he had a weird laugh, but I won’t completely write him off yet because of that. It’s almost disappointing to not have a bad date, because I don’t have any funny stories to share, but I definitely think I’ll have another date with The Accountant, so we’ll see what happens. Stay tuned…
